These beautiful hand-coloured folio engravings are from Johann Leonhard Frisch's work Vorstellung der Vogel Deutschlandes. This work was published in 1763 in two volumes by Friedrich Wilhelm Birnstiel in Berlin. The plates were drawn and engraved by Frisch's sons Ferdinand Helfreich & Philipp Jakob, as well as by grandson Johann Christoph. The work is considered the most complete and beautiful work on German birds.
These antique bird prints are very rare and rather difficult to find. Beautifully detailed and hand-coloured copperplate engravings in excellent condition, small folio, 37x23cm overall measurement, published in Berlin, 1733-63.
