Green Grackle

Thomas Watling c. 1795
 
This is a very rare set of hand-coloured bird prints based on original paintings by Thomas Watling and held in the British Museum (Natural History).  The images, painted around 1795, were published as hand-coloured lithographs in the rare periodical ”The Austral Avian Record vol 5(1) 1922” by G. M. Mathews and T. Iredale.  The set offered here are proofs and thus is in near mint condition. The set comprises; the Hooded Flycatcher (Muscicapa cucullata), Black-eared Cuckoo (Cuculus palliolatus), Sharp-tailed Sandpiper (Tringa aurita), Brown-crowned Thrush (Turdus tenebrosus), Clouded Shrike (Lanius torquatus), Green Grackle (Gracula viridis), and Frivolous Thrush (Turdus frivolus).
 
Print size: 19 x 25 cm - 7 1/2 x 10 inches (slight size variation)
 
All 7 prints featured on the "Thomas Watling" page, will be sold as a set, not individually. Price: $350.00 for all 7.
