Svenska foglarna 1856-86

Svenska foglarna (Swedish Birds) was written by Carl J. Sundevall, &  J. G. H. Kinberg. These rather rare plates were illustrated and lithographed by Peter Åkerlund. Printed in Stockholm by J. & A. Riis, 1856-71 and then continued by L. A. Normans Printers 1885-86

Peter Åkerlund was, in our opinion, one of the finest Swedish illustrators. Plates 1-14 & 33-84 are handcoloured. The remaining plates are lithographs.

A number of plates feature rare bird species for Sweden in the 1800's. Many are now even fairly common breeders.

Plate size: Approx. 32 x 25 cm - 13 x 10 inches. Sizes vary slightly.

Age-related foxing and smudging on some plates. Will not detract from image when framed.
